Pipe Bursting of New England carefully reviews each potential pipe bursting application employing equipment suppliers, pipe vendors, and others to ensure the right installation method, appropriate equipment, and proper pipe material are used for the specific needs at hand. We employ two categories of pipe installation for most applications – pneumatic and static.
Pneumatic Pipe Bursting

During the pneumatic method of pipe bursting, a steel cable is placed in the existing pipe from the receiving manhole/pit to the insertion pit. The pneumatic tool, expander, and new pipe are placed in the insertion pit and connected to the end of the cable. The combination of the assembly being guided and pulled back through the pipe and the percussion from the pneumatic tool fractures the host pipe into the surrounding soil as the new pipe is simultaneously pulled into place.

Static Pipe Bursting:
The static method of pipe bursting (or splitting) utilizes segmented steel rods that are placed in the existing pipe from the receiving manhole/pit to the insertion pit. The end of the rod is connected to the bladed cutting rollers, expander, and new pipe. As the assembly is pulled back through the pipe the roller blades split the pipe, then the expander displaces the host pipe into the surrounding soil as the new pipe is simultaneously pulled into place.
